The two weeks around Christmas and New Year are the most valuable of the Canary year. Northern Europe is dark and wet; the south of Tenerife is 20 to 22 degrees and sunny. Every large villa on the island is booked, most of them by returning groups who reserve the same dates before they leave.
When to book
For a villa sleeping twelve or more, the festive weeks go nine to twelve months ahead. If you are reading this in spring for the coming Christmas, book now; by September the choice is what is left, not what you want. Our calendar opens about a year ahead and returning guests get first refusal, which is why the same families appear on it year after year.
Minimum stays and prices
Expect a seven-night minimum over Christmas and New Year, sometimes arriving on a fixed changeover day, and the highest nightly prices of the year. The quote shows every line before you pay: nightly rate, any discount, cleaning fee and taxes where they apply. There is no platform fee on top. A 50% deposit holds the dates and the balance is due before arrival.
What the holidays are like here
Christmas Day is a beach day for many families, followed by a long lunch. Restaurants in Costa Adeje and La Caleta open for Christmas and New Year's Eve but need booking weeks ahead, which is where a villa with a table for sixteen and a private chef as an add-on earns its keep. On the 31st there are fireworks over the sea along the coast, and the Spanish tradition of twelve grapes at midnight is worth adopting. The 6th of January, Three Kings, is the Spanish gift day; shops are shut and the island is quiet.
