Las Américas is the beach resort of south Tenerife, but the town spreads uphill from the sea, and plenty of villas advertised as "Las Américas" sit on the ridge above it rather than in walking distance of the sand. For a group of ten or more, that difference decides whether the first and last hour of every beach day involves a taxi or not.
Why the ridge exists
Playa de las Américas and Playa de Troya sit at sea level, with the resort's nightlife strip running along the front. The streets above it, on the ridge between Las Américas and Costa Adeje, are quieter, residential, and where most of the larger licensed villas are, because that is where the space to build a seven-bedroom house with a pool actually exists. It is a five to ten minute taxi down to the beach from up there, which is fine for a day trip but not the same as stepping out of the door onto sand.
The one that is a real walk
The Surf Villa 2 is the exception: it sits in the centre of Las Américas, next to Siam Park and Siam Mall, with the beaches around ten minutes on foot. For a group who wants to walk down for the morning and back for lunch without organising taxis both ways, this is the villa built for it. It sleeps twelve across five bedrooms, with a pool and jacuzzi of its own for the days you would rather not walk anywhere at all.
The others, honestly
- The Surf Villa and The Surf Villa 3 are on the ridge between Las Américas and Costa Adeje: a short taxi, not a walk, to the beach or the seafront. What they trade for that is space, privacy and quiet at night, which a group that is not spending every day on the sand often values more. The Surf Villa is our flagship for up to seventeen, and Surf Villa 3 sleeps up to fifteen with its own heated jacuzzi.
- Villa Black is in Costa Adeje itself, about ten minutes' walk to Siam Park rather than the beach directly, and closer to Playa del Duque and Fañabé by a short taxi.
None of this is a reason to avoid the ridge villas. Taxis in the south are cheap, quick and easy to find, and most guests are happy to take one for a beach day and walk to dinner instead. It is simply worth knowing before you book, especially if part of your group has small children or does not want to be organising cars every morning.
What actually matters for a group on the beach
- Sun loungers fill up early in high season. A ten-minute walk means you can go back for a forgotten towel or a napping toddler without losing the afternoon; a taxi ride makes that a bigger decision.
- Lunch on the beach versus lunch at the villa. Groups within walking distance tend to eat out more; groups on the ridge tend to come back and eat together, which some people book a villa for in the first place.
- Evenings. The nightlife strip along the seafront is loud until late; the ridge is quiet. If your group wants both, Surf Villa 2's position between the two is worth a closer look.
